Welkommen!

This site is to chronicle my experiences with the "Wolves at War", a group that is based on Ubisoft's "Silent Hunter III", a WWII Unterseeboot simulation. Each of us assumes a persona, and then participates in a simulation of the Battle for the Atlantic.

I joined the group on 9 Nov 2009 while they were finishing up Patrol 12, set in Jun-Aug '42. I assumed the persona of Wolfgang Eickstedt, Leutnant zer See, and reported to the 5. Unterseebootsflottille, a training Flotilla based out of Kriegsmarine Naval Base Kiel. I then underwent a series of training exercises, culminating in an attack on an escorted convoy.

One of the items that helps in the immersion factor is that we submit actual documents to our commanders, based on real ones from the era. Here is my Kreigstagebuch (War Diary) for the final training exercise - it in effect is my qualification to actually BE a "Kaleun" (slang for Kapitanleutnant - the usual rank for a Uboot commander) in the Wolves!

Based on my performance, I was then promoted to Oberleutnant zer See.

I was then ordered to Kriegsmarine Naval Base at Konigsberg to take command of U-442, a Type VIIC then just finishing building at F Schichau GmbH, Danzig. I oversaw the final construction and the move to Kriegsmarine Naval Base at Konigsberg, where she was commissioned on 21.3.42 - the newest boat in the Fleet!

After final trials, outfitting and training of her new crew, I was ordered to proceed NLT 1.6.42 to my new assignment, 7.Unterseebootsflottille in Kreigsmanrine Naval Base St Nazaire, Frankrich. Unfortunately, local saboteurs delayed the final installation and testing of some of my new equipment, and so I did not actually proceed until 1728 9.6.42.

As of this update, I am awaiting orders for my first actual war patrol - stay tuned!
